Well, our Halloween was a bit un-Halloweenish. I did get the boys dressed in their costumes and dropped Andy off at work for the 1st time. I just started driving last Saturday after finally overcoming my fear of ...THE LEFT SIDE. You see, I come from a long line of Woods who are not exceptionally direction-oriented. Let's just say that I got a C- in geography and map reading is not my strong-suit. Just ask my oldest friend Teresa, whose 2 baby/bridal showers I arrived hours late to after getting lost in the tangle of L.A. freeways. Yes, I am a native Southern Californian- what is your point?!?
Anywho, after dropping Andy off and pulling out of the parking lot at WETA, I promptly slipped into my (all too familiar) Lucy Ricardo mode, got disoriented and well, LOST! I must say though that getting lost in New Zealand is freakin' DELIGHTFUL! It was the most visually stunning experience imaginable. Cruising along the rugged coastline, warm (summer is here!) wind in my hair, the fantastic ocean & mountain vistas almost driving me to distraction from my goal: to find my way home. Well, what should have taken me 15 minutes turned into 45, but I finally made it! What a liberating learning experience!
Once home we were visited by friends Anna & Athea who were sweet enough to drop off Halloween candy for the boys. Then we were off for the boy's Meningitis shots... this is a new vaccine (introduced in 2004) which is specific to New Zealand. Ronan and Liam were very brave and the nurse "rewarded" them with stale gummy fish and flicked on a dancing sunflower who played "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves at an eardrum-shattering decibel. Hopefully, this expereience didn't permanently scar them...I'd hate to think of Ronan & Liam correlating Halloween with ouchy shots and that painfully perky song. Afterwards we walked next door to our favorite Island Bay haunt, Black Rocks Cafe, for a proper reward: Ice cream sundaes for the boys, cappucino for Mommy.
Unfortunately, the boys weren't feeling very well after the shots. Ronan's leg was very sore and quite swollen at the injection site. Poor little guy could hardly stand or walk for most of the day, which is why he is seated in the photos below. Both boys were tired and listless and had mild fevers (all normal side-effects). Today Team Doucette is back in "top shelf" form and all is well at 57 High Street.

Ok, my comments are as follows:

Yay Yay
boo and we love you all so much!
I get myself lost in Courtenay, which shouldn't be humanly possible. But, I often find myself happy to be MIA when it means I got lost and ended up at the beach or magically on a mountainside. Would think the amazingness is tripled in NZ
Nice work though. I think just figuring out the other side driving thing would be enough to make me walk for a while:)
lucy ricardo update: i am happy to report that i am now dropping andy at work and making it home without a hitch! i have even ventured out into different suburbs and i'm starting to feel comfortable driving here! i even flipped my 1st american bird to a tail-gating ass-huffer today!
i must admit that yesterday i did pull out of the market and made a right turn right into the right lane (yikes!) those were 3 LONG seconds!
tonight, as i was picking andy up, a new animator (fresh from l.a.) was leaving WETA and driving towards me on the wrong side! I stopped and nodded "no worries" as he corrected himself...i felt like a local!
